”Nyx is the Greek goddess of the night. Fittingly at Nar, a temple of the night. Here we celebrate life by dancing until the light rises again.
This exhibition is about honoring the divine feminine and the feminine divinity. Women are central as a source of mystery, power, and fluidity.

The works reflect phases of life and the development within them.
I associate femininity with strength but also with vulnerability. Lately there has been a lot of news attention focused on the safety of women on the streets and the high femicide rates. There is a palpable social need to protect women. Perhaps there is still a lack of respect and recognition, and I sometimes think that is where the sore spot lies. That is why I am proud of this exhibition, which focuses on feminine power and development as a source of inspiration.

Charlotte Bartels is a self-taught artist, from Rotterdam but born in Utrecht. She works with a wide range of materials, from paint to aerosol cans, from tufting to textile installations, and from small oil paintings to large murals. She draws inspiration from the natural world, the diversity of people and culture, and the connections that can be found between them.

Charlotte’s passion for painting is palpable in the warm and exotic colors of her paintings. Her work is sensual, mysterious, and dreamy. It leaves you wondering what will happen next or what it means. I also see a certain determination, both in Charlotte and in her work.

This is the first solo exhibition since the gallery reopened. And the first time I spoke to Charlotte on the phone, she said she could easily fill the gallery, and she did. I’m already curious about what Charlotte will create in the future.”
